About NoteSono

Built with therapists, not for them

NoteSono exists because writing up sessions eats the evenings and weekends of people whose work is already demanding enough. That much is obvious to anyone who has spoken to a therapist in private practice.

What was less obvious, and what shaped the product more than anything, is how careful this profession is about records — and how badly served that care has been by software built for everyone else.

Most of this was somebody else's idea

These are real requests from practitioners using NoteSono, and what they became. None of them were on a roadmap.

“I would rather AI did not write my notes at all.”

A mode where you type into the sections of your format and nothing is generated. Your words reach the record exactly as you write them.

“None of your formats fit how person-centred therapy actually works.”

A person-centred format, built to the structure a counsellor specified rather than our idea of one.

“I find out I have gone over an EAP session limit when I try to invoice.”

Funder authorisations recorded against the client, counted as you go, and a warning before you go over.

“I send clients CORE-10 on paper and type the scores in by hand.”

A private link they complete before the session. The score lands in their record and every individual answer is readable.

If something is missing for how you practise, tell us. It is genuinely how this gets better — and the reply comes from someone who can do something about it.

    The decisions behind it

Some of these cost us features competitors have. They were still the right call.

    Sessions are never recorded

Most tools in this category transcribe the session itself. That means holding audio of a client speaking about their private life — special category data in its most identifiable form, requiring consent, a retention period and a plan for erasure requests. We decided not to hold it at all. You speak a short summary once the room is empty.

Clients are reference codes, not names

We store the code you choose and we hold no mapping between that code and a real person. If our database were ever exposed, what leaks is clinical text attached to "KJQ" rather than to someone identifiable. It is a weaker system for us and a safer one for your clients.

    Your records are yours

Export everything whenever you like, in full, including if you stop paying. A lapsed account moves to the free plan — 5 notes a month, and everything you have written stays readable and exportable in full. Your notes and client records stay there to read and export for as long as you want them.

    A person answers

Email us and someone who knows the product replies, usually within the hour. Not a ticket queue, not a chatbot, not a script. When something breaks we say what broke.

    What we are not

We are not ISO 27001 certified. We are ICO registered (ZC045529), we hold your data in the EU, we will sign a data processing agreement, and we are happy to answer any question about how any of it works — but if your organisation requires ISO certification from suppliers, we do not have it yet.

We are also not the biggest or the oldest tool in this market. What we offer instead is a product shaped by the people using it and a reply from someone who knows it when you need one.
